Functional medicine is for individuals who are looking for a more in-depth and personalized approach to their health. While OHIP-funded care is essential and provides excellent support for many medical needs, it does not allow for the extended appointments, in-depth exploration of root causes of disease, or comprehensive preventive care that this model offers. At SageMD patients have the opportunity to work one-on-one with an MD with experience in the care of complex medical needs of older adults,  who takes the time to listen carefully, understand the full context of their health, and develop a personalized plan tailored to their own health goals, which evolves with them. The focus is on partnership, prevention, and supporting health and function over time, particularly as needs become more complex with aging.

This approach differs from executive or concierge-style health clinics, which often provide streamlined access to comprehensive testing and assessments within a short timeframe. In those settings, the physician’s medical care itself is the same as any general primary care clinic, with private fees largely supporting the administrative structure, coordination, and testing services of the clinic. At SageMD, the costs associated with the service is directed toward specialized, preventive, and integrative care delivered directly by an MD—care that emphasizes time, clinical insight, and an ongoing therapeutic relationship rather than one-time evaluations. The goal is not speed or volume, but depth, continuity, and care that is tailored to you.
