Dr. Lakovic is a Care of the Elderly Physician with a longstanding professional interest in cognitive health, aging, and the care of medically complex adults.

Her academic training began at the University of Toronto, where she earned an Honours Bachelor of Science with a double specialization in Neuroscience and Psychology. She went on to complete a Master’s degree at  University of Toronto’s Institute of Medical Science, where her research examined the effects of blood breakdown products on neuronal conduction in a mouse model of hemorrhagic stroke.

Dr. Lakovic obtained her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Calgary, followed by Family Medicine Residency training at Western University. During residency, she developed a strong interest in the care of older adults and pursued further subspecialty training in Care of the Elderly at the University of Toronto.

Her clinical practice has focused on the care of medically complex older adults, including work in long-term care settings and acute inpatient medicine, caring for individuals with advanced chronic medical conditions, functional impairment, and geriatric syndromes. Through this work, she has developed extensive experience managing multimorbidity, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and neurocognitive disorders such as dementia.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr.Lakovic has been actively involved in leadership, advocacy, and medical education. She currently serves as Vice President of a non-profit organization Ontario Long Term Care Clinicians. She is committed to teaching and mentoring future physicians and is presently the Program Director for Care of the Elderly at the newly established School of Medicine at the Toronto Metropolitan University

After nearly a decade of clinical practice caring for individuals with advanced and complex chronic conditions, Dr. Lakovic developed a growing interest in approaches that emphasize early identification of risk factors, comprehensive wholistic assessments, and proactive health planning. This led her to pursue additional training in Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). She is currently completing the requirements toward full IFM certification, anticipated in 2026.

Her clinical experience, combined with a strong interest in preventive and personalized approaches to care, led her to establish SageMD. Through this practice, Dr. Lakovic seeks to support individuals in developing a deeper understanding of their health and potential risk factors, while emphasizing collaborative, patient-centred care.

A central focus of her work is empowering patients to take an active role in their health, helping them feel informed, supported, and capable of being agents of change in their own health and wellbeing. By providing comprehensive assessments, education, and individualized care planning, she works with patients to identify areas where thoughtful, evidence-informed strategies may support long-term health and well-being.

Dr. Lakovic is particularly interested in helping individuals navigate the complexities of aging and chronic disease risk with clarity and confidence. Her approach emphasizes partnership, informed decision-making, and realistic goal-setting, with the aim of supporting patients as they engage more fully in their own health journey.
